Hi All,

After months of prevarication & pouring through posts on this forum I am now looking to buy a Chim

I've got a budget of £10K for the purchase - I'm well aware that this is the low end of the market & all that entails.

I am after an round solid car, condition being more important than age and milage.

Chassis & engine (4.0 pref) must be sound, good service history (indie or TVR) & evidence that it's been looked after in the last few years.

I'm pretty open to specs & colours but the wife acceptance factor means the following has to be met:

Exterior Colour: Not Yellow
Interior: No green carpets or grey leather. Ideally light e.g magnolia.

I don't want to encourage any blatent plugging on the forum so if anyone has something suitable & wants to sell please PM me with info on your P&J

Cheers

Alex

Do what i did, find a dark blue (starmist/mica) with light leather (cream/biscuit/magnolia) 4.0 on a 95 (so you get the serpentine engine and T5 gearbox).
Try and find a higher mileage, lower owner example (i'd buy 3 owner 60k miles before i'd buy 6 owner 20k mile any day).

And when you've bought it, post pics!

What's wrong with green caprets and grey leather? That's exactly what I'm getting

Green carpets and grey leather are perfect for a green car, just like black in a yellow car - but everyone knows the blue Chims are the fast ones

Nothing! I personally think they look good. However the wife will be driving the car more than I will & these are her "conditions". If that what it takes to get a Chim rather than another MX-5 then I can live with it

£10k? Blimey.

Well, I guess you won't be interested in my 97R Chimaera 500 should I decide to sell it - because I'll be looking for at least half as much again.

I dunno. 28k miles, two owners, full service history, CD changer, never tracked (never got round to it), I reckon £15k+ is pretty reasonable for a '97 500.

...mayhap, with a fair wind.

Have you been studying the classifieds lately?

Is that the same one on your profile pic going sideways round a track

Yes and no. It's not going sideways round a track, it's actually executing a spin turn and then PhotoShopped to add some blur, smartarse.

Edit: It was on my wedding day at Silverstone. We had Bridge and the bend following it for photo ops, no more. Had to drive up and down and turn at each end. Time was limited, so naturally I had to use the quickest way to turn at each end.

You can buy my late '95 4.0L Chim for £6.5k and spend £2k getting it in mint condition if you want. Needs a front end respray, has a tear in the hood. Few other bits. had it for 3 years and using it as an everyday car had taken it's toll cosmetically. Engine never missed a beat in 40k miles though. She's on 102k miles now. Loads of history. Would love to see her go to someone who could put her back into her former glory.
