It's coming up to new cam time Can anyone convince me that I should not have a standard cam fitted, the car has never had any running problems (apart from needing a new cam )after doing a search (and maybe reading too much) can upgrading the cam lead to probs. Also any recommendations as to who to do the work,my local dealer is excellent but should I go to someone who does this sort of thing day-in day-out.

The trouble is,it all comes down to how much your prepared to spend as well.If you have anything much different, then to get the best out of it you'll need a re-map.This has just become significanly cheaper with people like Track car solutions, but is still an extra cost. Also you ought to think about whether you will upgrade the manifold, trumpets and plenum. All of these will help get the best from the cam,but of course will cost extra. If you upgrade them at the cam change then they will cost a lot less as they have to be removed and re-fitted anyway,so you just pay for the parts and no more labour than the cam change itself.A different cam can transform the car for sure,i've never looked back scince i did mine.A std 500 now feels comparatively weak, and does not rev so well.I'd never go back

Search the word cam in the Chimaera forum for the past 12 months.
Plenty of useful stuff to read there
