Hi all,

I wondered if anyone knew which alternator is best to fit on a 94 4ltr chim. Not taking the one that is on my car as a role model as the person i brought the car off had made some very nice subtle changes and used cheap non standard parts to get the car running and through the MOT.

I know there are two types of alternator as follows

Lucas A127 70 Amp (Whats this from???)
Lucas A115 55 Amp (Ford Escort)

Is there any difference between the two as in physical size and mounting positions? Is one for pre-serp and the other for serpp engine or should i just try andf get hold of the 70 amp and hope for the best???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as the car is dead in the carpark at the moment...

The A127 is very slightly bigger, not much in it. Both are used on Fords as well as a few other cars, IIRC the 70A uses bolt on terminals as opposed to Lucar connections, the more Amps the better.

Both are also listed Rover SD1/Landrover items, they seem a fairly common units. there are some differences though between electrical connections, plug types etc. I'm not sure how the part numbers vary for this though.
