The heat reflective material under the bonnet of my Chimaera is coming away and starting to 'lie' on the engine when the bonnet is closed.

Can anyone recommend a good contact adhesive which will withstand the heat under there?

OR - can anyone recommend a good alternative material (and supplier)that I can replace the existing shield with?

Thanks and Happy New Year everyone

My heat shielding has also become detatched and I haven’t go round to fixing it yet!

The 'bible' mentions the no-nails type glue or I think you could perhaps just use ordinary silicone sealant - the glass in fisktanks are glued together using this...... should also be quite heat resistant being silicone.

No More Nails worked for mine. You just need to find a way of keeping the heat shield in contact with the under side of the bonnet until it goes off.

I know it's a bit of a pain, but the best bet is to take the bonnet off first and then re-stick the shielding.

I used gripfill which i think is very similar to no nails.squirt loads behind panel, put a big towel/blanket etc on top of engine and close bonnet as far as it will go,this will hold it in place until dry.Remember to remove before starting.

Thanks everyone. I had thought of removing it all and replacing with some sort of self-adhesive material like this:

but I never thought of No More Nails or Gripfill. I think I'll try one of those 1st.

Cheers

(I really must get a copy of the 'Bible')

We use loctite 5066 its used in the automotive industry for bonding panels together.
It can withstand 100 degs C.
It comes in a tube the same as any mastic or silicone sealer.
you can get it from any BSL outlet or loctite distibutor it is not expensive.

Interesting stuff, but I don't like the sound of its 'sound deadening' properties! What self respecting TVR owner would want that!

Good advice on the glue, I'm off to stick mine down properly.......

Anyone got any ideas of how to hold it in place without taking the bonnet off ?

I tried a combination of some Duck tape to hold it on and and some old duvets / blankets over the engine to push it up onto the bonnet. Not sure which was the most effective but it worked anyway.

I used Gripfill
