I'm looking to get a Chim from a specialist dealer and I was wondering what kind of discount I'd be likely to get over the sticker price.

For example, if a car is out at £15,995 would it be too optimistic to expect to be able to haggle it down to say £14,500?

I'm hoping that being a cash buyer in the winter months will put me in a good position but I'd like to get an idea of the kind of flexibility I can expect.

Apologies if this is a silly question, obviously it depends on the dealer/car etc but I'd like to go into the situation with reasonable expectations.

Thanks!

Fernies didn't give me a discount on the sticker price. They said they never give discoutns but throw in some stuff free. I got a CD player and a set of rear speakers but could have got a sports exhaust instead. Wish I'd gone for the exhaust at the time...

Interesting... I'd prefer that to be honest.

I'll head over to see them tomorrow.

I bought from a specialist TVR Dealer back in 2003. Sticker price on a 2000 W Chim was £20995. I paid £20,000 cash. My view is that no discount is tosh especially in current market. Push em til it hurts and be prepared to walk away. There's normally £4k at least between buy and and sale price, obviously they have costs but not 4k. Also - when you come to sell, you won't get any more for the freebies ! The more yet get off now, the less you lose.

I went to a main dealer in Yorkshire in mid December looking for a Chimaera who had a silver 4.0 97P up for £14,995. As it's a quiet time of the year and insisted my budget was only £13k they offered it at £13,300. I suppose it depends how desperate they want a sale - if they have had the one you are looking at for a while or are having a bad month you should be able to strike a good deal. Happy shopping!

Alternatively, go private and pay for an independant inspection. There must be some great private bargains out there at the moment with plenty of room for negotiation. Good luck in your quest - we look forward to welcoming you to the fold. Mr M.

In my experience there's always room for negotiation.. around £500 on a used car, and more on a new model.

Well the trip to Gatwick was well worth it! I put a deposit down on a rather tasty Chim 500! Hopefully I'll pick it up in a couple of weeks...

Did you manage to get any reduction from the already discounted price ?
Im looking for a Chim myself, but with the assitance of Mr Ingleby.
