Afternoon all, another question from Cowhead!

How should I go about removing a dealer sticker from the rear of my Chim? It looks like it's been on there a good while. Will it damage the paint work if I do it?

Thanks.

I've done it before using WD40, a finger nail and some time.

I hear that it's worth using a hair dryer to soften it up a bit first but I managed without.

Nice one. I'd heard about the hair dryer trick aswell.

I'll crack on with it after the rugby's finished.

I hear that very hot water helps soften the adhesive, but again not tried it.

This is one of my pet hates actually. If I ever find myself in the financial position to buy a brand new car I think I'd probably tell the dealer to take it off or else pay me a monthly advertising fee.

After you have used the hairdryer or hot water trick, you'll doubtless be left with adhesive residue. Maplin do a spray that removes this, but it does stink a bit.

3m do make a remover for this residue, try one of the many vehicle sign writing companies. I always use a hairdryer to remove any adhesive vinyl myself, then use the 3m stuff to finish off.

WD40 also handles the sticky stuff.

What to do if they stick their sticker on the inside of the rear screen.??

Not sure the hot water / hair drier trick would be appropriate here.??

PS. This sticker has been there for about a year and a half - just never been brave enough to remove it - especially not in this cold weather.!!!

That's the worst. My dad had a TVR 400SE (from new) and the dealer had put their dealer sticker, which was about the size of a CD case, in the middle of the rear window right in the line of vision through the rear view mirror.

I have probably given just enough away that the dealer in question (who sometimes posts on here) might twig so I guess I shouldn't say any more, but suffice to say that I would not have been as tolerant of this as my father was.

I removed the original dealer's stickers off the back of my car and off the plastic window (outside). They had been on for six years. Despite it being a cold day and not warming the stickers up, both came off easily and both left a residue. Five minutes later I'd removed the residue with meths. If you're looking for it, you can still see where the window sticker was, but not the one on the back.

I second that! My sticker was at the bottom centre of the rear screen on the inside, got it off and then removed the residue with the Autoglym stuff! No marks or damage whatsoever, then just cleaned the whole rear screen with Meiguars Plastx, brought it up like new!!

Removed mine on a hot summers day - it just peeled of but somehow the glue had become ingrained in teh paint - no amount of polishing, paint treatment etc would remove it. So did the sensible thing and bought a Pistonheads badge to cover the mark :-)

I still have three years residue of Le Mans Camping stickers (two green lines if you know them ) on the inside of my screen, yes they do seem to use super glue or similar. I've tried every year to remove it but tbh lifes too short to waste an hour getting no where, honest I have tried with hot soapy water, wd40, vinegar, hair drier but it is still there . Any experience in removing them from a Le Mans vet please.

Don't these go on the windscreen? I assume you're talking about the camping stickers with sticky stuff on both vertical sides?

Even when you remove it you'll still end up with a mark where it used to be.
