Have decided to sell my chim - need something more practical for work, was wondering what it was worth, it is a late 94 on an M Plate (M400OCC) runs very well (recently spent £750 on having electrics sorted) - has the usual leaks, the carpet in the drivers footwell is a bit tatty and the drivers wing mirror needs attention. Now for the really bad bit, the car is on the HPI register as being a cat. D - how much do you think I can realisticly get for it?

Hahahahaha!

Sorry.

Been trying to sell mine since September and it sounds like it's in a better state than yours. Even so I've dropped the price by some horrendous amount and even so had very few takers -- there's a lot of them about.

Yours might (sight unseen and all that) be worth £10k-11k privately but you'll get offered as low as £6k-7k in the trade, or more if it's a low miler.

Good luck.

In the trade most insurance classifiactions carry a broad 40% off the price with `normal cars' that feature in glasses guide and CAP retail/trade black book.

TVR's are a funny thing as some repairs come back better than original, but they are hard to finance and stock for dealers, and hard to insure from experience.

Thats a tough one - £10K normal £6K Cat D?

A - Usually fire damaged (burnt-out), flood damaged, or severely damaged with no servicable parts.

B - Damaged beyond economical repair and/or severe structural damage.

C - Damaged, but repairable. Generally applied to older vehicles.

D - Slightly damaged sometimes stolen and found after claim has been paid or high cost of repair combined with difficulty obtaining new parts to enable a swift repair.

So 'Cat D' is the least bad of the four then. Can't you appeal and get it reclassified, like a credit rating? Would a private plate would help break the trail?

private plate wont break the trail.
You cant get a cars history wiped or reclassified after it has been written off. IT will alway show up as having been written off and the category of salvage (the categorys were introduced in the early 1990's I think). You can get a car inspected after it has been repaired so called autolined (correct spelling I think!). This will show that alough the car was damaged it has been repaired properly and has been inspected to confirm this.

Rob, have you thought of PistonHeads classified? ha-ha! Also put it in Autotrader and Sprint if you're a member. Ask Manek where he's been trying as well.
In fact I know of a young lady who is looking for a Chim and I might point her at Manek's as his is a well-sorted car. Not sure yet what colour she's after but I said this is a great time to buy.
