Hello

My rev counter has stopped working not the end of the world I know but annoying. The needle wont move at all. The back lighting for the rev counter itself works. I know the unit is an electonic one. Am I looking at a new unit or are their any other things I can look for. In the past the rev counter has stopped working momentally but always stared working again, now its not working at all. Any ideas would be greatfully recieved!

Cheers
alex

I know ETB Instruments can clean it out and repair it. Cost me 15 quid and they had a fast and efficient service. Friendly people too, as I once sent my non-working speedo, and they phoned me to tell me it was fine and tried to explain what it could be.

ETB Instruments ... where are they based? My oil pressure gauge seems a bit sticky (always has been for 5 years - new sender(s)/checked wiring etc.). It would be nice if I could get someone to sort it out.

Thanks.

I'm not in the country now, so I have'nt got the address, IIRC somewhere near Essex?? (somebody on here will have it- try a search, I've seen them mentioned here before). My Oil Pressure gauge was sticking too and I sent it to them and he phoned me and told me there was nothing wrong with that either!! He said it would be the sender, he sent one over, 20 quid and 10 mins later all is fine.

If you send your dials get them insured for posting.

Counter takes a feed from the coil IIRC. Sure it hasn't dropped off/broken?

It's just coil (IIRC means "If I Remember Correctly")

I'm sure someone can give a more detailed explanation, but the coil is located on the top of the engine on the drivers side near the alternator, its cylindrical in shape and you will find a plug lead goes from it to the distributor cap. All it does is boost the power from the battery and send it to the distributer, but the Rev counter is able to detect the pulses from the coil and convert them into revs, if the car starts and runs fine then the coil is O.K. but as mentioned previously check the connections to the back of the rev counter.

Hope that helps!

Look for something the size of a stella can with one HT lead coming from it to the Distributor and some other smaller wires on connectors on it too.. it makes the high voltage for the spark for the spark plugs.
Cheers
Matt.

The feed connection is in the wiring loom so the wire that go the coil ae effectively the ones needed for the ignition to work. If these have dropped off, the car won't run.

You would need to chcek through the wiring loom with a continuity meter to see what is going on.
