Hi all, I am a relative newbie to TVR,s. I bought TVR Chim back in July, first one I looked at as I was so excited. Drove my girlfriends Griff a few times and was hooked. When I first got the car I was a tad suprised at the power up to 3500 revs, which I found slow compared to the Griff, but equally suprised after that at the torque. It runs like a dream, looks good, and Gets the attention from bystanders. However, I am a tad disappointed in the car. I did not expect the additional extras that the car brought. 2 Indoor swimming pools is great in a gym, but not in a car, Whenever I indicate high beam comes on, faded carpets (Which I am about to replace) Battery that died, and took 4 men at Autofit 2 hours to replace! not to mention a dozen other little niggles. Does anyone know of anyone in the North West, who could iron out the little problems for me, and make it a bit quicker? (Suprised at the difference between 4.0L and 4.5.) I,m sure I will grow to love my Chim, and just joined TVROC.

kim
sounds to me like they didn't mark around the battery box before removing it
Try getting the bolts in from underneath when you are guessing
I replaced a local PHers battery in about an hour all in all, and that was at a leisurely pace.
Thanks for the advice, will contact him shortly. Feeling a bit better towards the car today as authorisation to put my private plates has arrived today! Autofit, could not unscrew the bolts from under the car, after working out how to take off the cover, thought I was going to constantly have jump leads attatched! Did I pay the right amount for the car P`97 at 12k with 40000 miles, pretty much fsh, and not sure if it has been waxoiled? I have done 3k in it since I bought it and the car has not missed a beat so far.

Impossible to say if price is right as so much is down to condition and also not sure of the year, 12k is not neccesarily a lot and if it has not let you down in 3K miles then that it a good start.
If you are not sure about the chassis protection then get it looked at and treated if required asap, this is not an area that should be neglected as it can quickly bite you on the bum. It sounds also like it is living outside, they can be made waterproof but there are loads of areas to look at, not least the hood itself may need some coats of Fabsil to re-waterproof it, also check door seals (there was a mod to add a pinched area at the bottom which was a fix to stop water collecting I think so check this has been done) and also you may need to look at any number of gromits/holes in the engine bay where water can get in. Do a search for wet carpets, pick one with a lot of answers and you will find the most common areas listed with more details. Do not bother getting the carpets done until you are sure you have it under control as it is bloody hard to get rid of the musty smell once they have got wet. Finally a cover will also help, some cheap full body ones can however cause scratching to the paintwork (especially if car has some dirt on it) so maybe just a small canopy one to cover the roof area is a better bet (but you will then need to make sure then that any water getting in via the engine bay is fully sorted).
I had the indicator problem on my chim - the removable panel on the indicator switch was not quite tight enough which allowed the contact to touch intermittently and switch the main beam on. I put a couple of peices of thin card between the switch and the side of the housing nearest the steering wheel and it has been perfect ever since.
