I am looking at buying a Chim from dealer in the south, the car was one of TVR's own, the mileage is higher than some of a similar age. This car would be my first TVR! My question is whether the history of the car will make it more valuable, or will people be put off by the thought of all those horrible journo. types thrashing around in the car.The vendor tells me the car is a very quick example (coz i would hate to have a slow TVR!)but it is just shy of £20,000
Should I proceed with caution, or just buy without worrying about re sale pitfalls

If is was a car that th journos used, there are potentially two advantages;

There may be lots of pretty photos that you will find in back issues of magazines

The car will probably have much more power than standard (perhaps almost as much as the official figures suggest!).

The pitfalls are obvious.

Might be a good idea to check with the factory that it really was a press work horse, rather than a nice line / point of interest handed down to the current seller. But from other threads the factory will probably charge you £30 plus vat for checking the records!

Agree with Yum - collecting a scrap book of photos and articles would be a nice way of getting involved with the TVR thing.

Good luck with your purchase - it's a great time to be buying (present weather excepted). Post some pics when you've landed your catch

Depends. A few were pool cars and were always looked after. The press cars were "used" but also pampered.

Dad's Chim was also lent out to customers who didn't exactly treat it with care, they scratched it, bumped it, opened the doors into walls and finally very kindly wrote it off for him.

Check very very carefully.

Well thanks for the advice, I did the deed earlier on today. Now looking forward to having some fun. I do hope when the time comes to sell, trade up whatever that someone as silly as me can be found
