A TVR virgin seeks advice!!!
Discussion
Hello all
I am just about to buy my first Trevor, a Starmist Blue Chimaera 4L, (T181KAD) subject to it getting through the inspection on thursday. Im looking for a few bits of advice if anyone would be so kind.
1. How long does the warenty last on chims and does it pass to second owners?
2. Is the alarm system as much of a problem as it seems on this site? Is it worth getting it replace straight away and if so by who?
3. Is there a TVR club in Herts? I live in Hatfield and want to meet other owners.
4. How hard is it to fit alloy stalks as the current ones are plastic and kinda spoil the interior!!!
5. Just as a matter of interest is the previous owner of this car a member here???
Thanks in advance for any help and look forward to talking to or maybe even meeting some of you!

Well done for getting a Chimaera...I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Griff.
I can only respond to your point about alloy column stalks. I would vey much recommend the Leven Technology kit, personally. I have fitted their stalks to my car ( a Griff) and can confirm its a big improvement in looks and functioning. It was not difficult as their instructions are very comprehensive indeed....you just need to take a deep breath before you hacksaw through the plastic stems!!!! Spend some time looking at the car and kit and instructions before you do the job. I've also got their pedal replacement kit and lighter cover. Enjoy the car!!!

Hi NJP and welcome to the TVR expeience!!
Warranty - Minimum they can get away with legally (1 year. Must be transferable by law, I believe). If yours T reg there ain't none (unless it's a dealer backed one)
Alarm - Can be a pain in the ar$e when it goes wrong. (mine did at 5 years old). Make sure all the conacts are cleaned and valoline'd and that the sounder points down slightly to avoid water ingress. Then it should be OK.
Club - There's only one worth bothering with (arguably). Go to www.tvrcc.com and have a butcher's. Not cheap to join but there are laods of regional events, you get an excellent club magazine and loads of tips and advice when you need it.
Stalks - not changed mine but am told Leven Tech ones are good.
Original owner - could be on here or maybe a TVRCC member (not me BTW).
Make no mistake - you WILL enjoy your Chimp whatever little niggles you might have to overcome along the way. Nothing comes close for joy of ownership for the price !!

In response to a couple of your points, I assume the alarm that is on there is the Meta standard fit system. If so this is actually a very good system, they were installed during build at the factory so they are very securely set up, just check it works ok by setting off the alarm as in my experience the sirens seem to be the week spot (exposed in front grill area). (BTW, when I looked into getting a Clifford system at R-Tec the owner actually advised me to stick with the Meta).
I too live in Hatfield so good to hear of another Trev in the area. As for local TVR meets, there is one every 2nd Sunday of the month at lunchtime at a pub in Harpenden – can’t remember which one though. I also go to the Bucks meet which is at the Crow’s Nest, near Tring on the 3rd Friday during the evening, which I can usually make it to. A bit of a drive but a nice blast up the A41 helps clear the cobwebs!
Look forward to seeing you around - keep an eye out for a purple beast
and may you enjoy many a happy blast through the Hatfield tunnel

Hello all
3. Is there a TVR club in Herts? I live in Hatfield and want to meet other owners.
Congratulations on your new purchase.
I think all your points have been covered pretty well.
If you'd like to know how to get to where we meet email me through my profile. AngusFaldo posts on here and is the RO for Herts and Beds and he lives in WGC and I'm in Harpenden. Hope to see you at one of the meets. Next one should be 12 Jan.
Paul
If you decide to replace the Meta system Inca in Burrowfields, WGC did a good job on my Griff. If you want to see the quality oF work they do come along to the Jan club meet on the 12th and have a ferret around my car. Car also has the Leven bits.
Or email me through profile and we could meet locally if you like.
