Over about 45mph the wind noise coming in from the roof/window gets really bad. I also get a lot of cold air entering the cabin from behind the dash. Is this normal? I must admit that when I was test driving Chim's I wasn't really concentrating on where the widn was coming in.

I recently read a review of the Chim by Top Gear magazine and they quoted that the targa roof was very good at keeping out the noise/elements. Not if mine is anything to go by! The rubbers were all replaced recently and yet it's still very noisy...

Mine is actually pretty quiet... much more so than expected!

Is there a gap between the window and the targa?
If so I believe you can adjust the height to which the window shuts this involves removing the door panel, something I have tried myself and gave up on, on account of large forearms ( Try it and you'll see what I mean ). Get your self a bible if you don't already have one it tells you how to remove the doors panels and I believe how to adjust the window height.
On my car the drivers side window makes contact with the roof but on the passenger side it leaves about a 8mm gap and the wind whistles in.
Saying that I like to have the windows down even in winter to listen the V8

slightly longer than normal targa to window seals helps fill the small hole at the top front of the side window, and thus improves things. On my chim, having the rear shelf grills filled in with speakers made the noise much worse,as there was nowhere else for the air pressure in the cockpit to escape.Mine was a '95 model, and i'm told later models had extra ventilation so dont suffer the same.Dont know if this is the case, but many dont seem to get the problem even with rear speakers?

I have a '99 Chim and don't have any problems with wind noise apart from when on empty motorway speeds coming from drivers side window, but as was mentioned previously i very very rarely drive with windows done up.

Mine makes wind noise at 70mph, probably due to the rear vents filled in with speakers and a slightly dodgy Targa seal!

Regarding the window, here's some info I was given on another thread that may help - having said that, I've not managed to do mine yet

and a big welcome to the fold.

Window adjuster is a screw, crosshead IIRC it's situated about here

Hope that helps.

One source of cold air I found was an access hole in the sill to the right of your right knee. It might be worthwhile lifting the carpet to make sure your hole cover is not missing as mine was . Also , on mine I have rubber seal which protrudes past the front edge of the targa. If this is positioned downwards on fitting I get a good seal. If I forget and it sticks upwards then in comes the cold air.Good luck.

that's the only place i get noise, mines a 2000, but to be honest i'm wondering how you can feel a draft, doesn't your heater work? My 'bitch ' is hot as f''' when i'm running fast, keep the revs up and you won't hear a thing.. 4500 is when the good noise starts after that i'm looking straight ahead and holding on for dear liiiiiiiiife.....

My car (2001) is pretty quiet as well - very well sealed for a hand built open top sports car, IMHO.

Thank you everyone for the tips. This is what I've tried previously:

Sealed hole in driver's side sill
Replaced rubber around door frame/windscreen
Extra length targa seals installed

I still get air coming through the top of the glass on drivers door as it doesn't fit tightly to tagra seal. I've checked for the adjustment screw and I don't have one - I understand some cras didn't have this. I think removing the door card and adjusting the frame is the only way, but TVRBODYSHOP have tried this and failed.

Thee is also a lot of cold air coming in from behind the dash that I'll need to locate the source of and seal.

My heater gets really hot, but the fan blower doesn't pump out enough air to really make a difference (except on a 25 minute run, then the cabin warms up nicely)

I traced cold air coming from a round hole under the carpet fitted on the door side of the drivers foot well (it is actually a couple of inches away from the the lower front corner of the door. In mine, air then found its way into the cabin where the carpet joins the front on the drivers door, in a friends Chim air came into the cabin where the carpet finishes next under tha dash. It could have nothing to do with your source of cold air.
BTW does anybody know if that hole is a feature of all Chims?
