Just saw the post on wobbly door mirrors and in one of the replies it shows a heating pad on the back of the mirror.
Stupid question......how are they switched on as in most modern cars they come on with the heated rear window?
If it is a switch the next question is pointless, but if they are operated some other way is there an easy way to tell apart from leaving her out all night dipping wet and left to freeze.

They come on when you switch the ignition on for 10mins or so. Easy it tell if they are working, start the car, wait ten mins and touch them, they should be warm

On my 97 450 they are switch operated.... The joystick that operates the electric mirrors is also the switch for the heating elements. I push down on the top of it and it goes in a few mm , big relay click from under the dash and hey presto, heated mirrors.

From other threads I hear this is a feature of my car and not all seem to have it , but worth a try.
