Wishbone bushes - big difference when new?
Discussion
Hi,
At my last service 25k (1994 4.0 Chim) they said my bushes were looking worn and aged. Given that the car is 12 years old and now 30k if I were to change the bushes is there a big difference in the ride handling? Would I be better off replacing the wishbones at the same time vs the time to change the bushes?
At the moment I have the choice of purchasing a newer Chim or I make changes to my current one given that I have just had the clutch changed.
Thanks in advance.
Bevan.

Have a look on herewww.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=239957&f=9&h=0.I certainly wouldn't replace with the original bushes again.
There are some powerflex bushes on e-bay at the moment which seem to be a good deal;

Without wishing to hi-jack your thread does anybody know if these are any good - are there different types / hardness of powerflex bush?

Don't know exactly what I had on mine, apart from "poly" bushes which were better than original.
I can't remember what mine handled like before, but I do remember thinking on the way home that the car was 100% sharper on turn-in, massive difference.
Also note, changing bushes takes time (think there are 22 in all) - ask for a labour quote before you do it - I had loads of work done last year, but it was a divorce sized bill that blew me away coz I never thought to ask for a quote first - just said "look if it needs it, just do it" with my own (under)estimate for the bill in my head: oops!

It's a good idea to replace the wishbones as well if you can afford it. I have just gone through this myself but just painted the old wishbones, couldn't afford to replace them. Racing Green do the wishbones for about £50 each if I remember correctly and I think they are already fully bushed.

Sounds like a good deal but are they the revised kit with the heatshield etc etc, I would check first because a lot of work went into making the kit right.

Do new wishbones generally come with powerflex of rubber bushes?
Unfortunately not, TVR have cottoned onto that one.
Hi,
I think I need to get along to a meet and get a ride in some Chims that have new suspension as at the moment I have nothing to compare to but I feel that the ride could be a bit more balanced.
The pockets a little empty due to my recent clutch upgrade so might not happen straight away.
Thanks,
Bevan.
