bit worried about battery
Discussion
as you may have seen from a previous post of mine, im havin problems with the battery. I only get to use the car at the weekend as im away during the week.
when i got the car the previous owner had something plugged into the footwell obviously keeping the battery charged. what is it and where can i get one?
also, ive heard there is a secret way in to the car if the battery goes completely. I hope i never have to use it but just in case i get back this weekend and its gone, what do i do?
thanks.

Most people have a battery conditioner. It's like a posh battery charger but more intelligent as normal chargers can damage the battery. Think you can get them from most TVR specialists like Austec or David Gerald. They are about £50.
There does seem to be a fairly obvious way of getting into the car but I won't publish it on the forum for all to see!

you can get an accumate, which is a tricle charger. It monitors the battery's charge and tops up if necessary. I bought a draper one as it was cheaper, about £20 which seems to do the job.
Accumate is not a trickle charger!
It is a battery conditioner. it monitors the charge held by your battery and allows it to drain and then tops it up. It doesn't drain completely! In other words, it 'works' your battery.
Buy one for £40+ from TVR car parts 01884 266755

Well mine is a trickle charger, but does the same thing as the accumate!

AFAIK, trickle chargers are not the same as an accumate; both work in different ways...
The Accumate is much kinder to the battery once full charge has been completed. You can leave it connected to the battery for months and it will not do it any harm - not something you would want to do with most trickle chargers.
If your just leaving it attached for the day then either will work - if your keeping the car off road for a length of time then pay the extra for the accumate (I picked mine up for £20 new off ebay) and it will pay you back in extended battery life
thanks, will get shopping right now.
about getting into the car, i understand nobody will be silly enough to tell me on here. i have been on here for about 6 months so hope i can be trusted. I have an N reg Chim, got it from a lovely guy in Addlestone in September time and reg ends in GUM. Im sure you know the car and who knows, you may have even seen me.

thanks.
