Leaking Stepper Motor Housing....
Discussion
I have just replaced my stepper motor after it was overtightened. one of the reasons I think this may have happened is that you can hear an air leak in the area of the motor.
Have now replaced the motor and tightened it (gently with hand pressure only). However, upon further investigation could feel that there was a leak where the stepper motor housing met the plenum.
I am think of getting some on like v8 developments to give the engine a bit of TLC in spring summer, i.e. when I have recovered from Christmas, so in the mean time was wondering whether it was worth putting a run of silicone sealant around the housing?

The "leak" is where the housing istelf (not the between the stepper motor and the housing) meets the plenum on the side where you insert the stepper motor, if you get what I mean. As in, if you are looking at the stepper from the right hand side of the car it is this edge of the housing meeting the plenum where I can hear/feel the leak....

I used to use PTFE tape, but once Stepper jammed and I broke it trying to loosen it. Getting the bits of tape out of the Plenum was a bu**er too.
I now use Copper Grease - seals nicely and loosens nicely too.
Stepper motors are so fragile that I don't think that there is anything that 'always' works.
