Hi guys
I hope one of you can help put my mind at rest.
The other day I was coming out of a roundabout “perhaps” a bit too fast and I think I over revved her, I didn’t hit the rev limiter but now I have a strange ticking sound from the passenger side bank of cylinders.
I am hoping I’ve just blown the exhaust manifold gasket.
Please put my mind at rest.

Cheers for your input
Rob

Could be - does it get louder the further up the rev range ??

Could be cam trouble as well - try a compression test on both sides for peace of mind - usual disclaimers apply

Hi Tunnelmeister
Not really it does get a bit louder as you pull away but then the dam thing makes so much noies anyway you can't hear it.

Thanks for you input

May be the manifold gaskets. When they start going it makes a ticking noise, and as they get worse the noise can be quite alarming and sounds much more expensive than is actually is.

You may be able to hear the ticking on idle which will obviously get a little louder and quicker if you rev the engine whilst still in neutral. But accelerating in gear (i.e. putting the engine under load) the ticking will get a lot louder.

But if not sure would stringly suggest that you get an expert to have a listen to it asap. Always better to exercise caution in these circumstances.

Thanks Andy
It's been parked in the Garage for a week while I think about it.

Cheers
