I wonder if anyone can offer a solution. It seems that there is a relay click under the steering wheel cowl, which does not seem to do anything. But does this relate to the fuel gauge which only works intermittently and never with the engine running

I get this as well, I am told that it is the .10th of a mile counter in the mileometer clicking over and nothing to worry about.

Hi,

Clicking does sound like the .10th mile speedo. I don't notice it until someone gets in and says "what is that clicking"!

I had a similar problem with the fuel gauge and I traced it down the wires on the sender unit and one was loose. Maybe take them off one at a time and reconnect and see if that helps.

I also had an intermitent fuel gauge and traced it to a loose connection behind the passenger door. There are several block connectors beneath the "velcro-ed down carpet flap" behind the passenger's left shoulder...well there are in mine, and having cleaned up all the connections, the fuel gauge now works perfectly.

Many thanks presume the sender unit is under the carpet in the boot on the right hand side of the tank

Is it possible to improve the gauge / sender at all?

I've seen several mentions of "always fill up at 1/4" and "just use the odo" but it must be possible to get the gauge to be accurate...

I love the way that if you go round a bend ( i think its a lefthander) then you suddenly have a quater tank more

Absolutely!! If you are ever running out of fuel, find a quiet roundabout and go around it the wrong way several times. As if by magic, there you go, enough fuel to get home!!

Hi,

Yes, the sender is on the righthand side.

I find that with a full tank that after 100 miles the needle will start moving then I have 150 miles before the light comes on and permanently even then I know I have 40 miles of fuel left to find a garage and only once have I gone past the 50litre to fill up in 13,000 miles!! Best thing is - learn what your gauge does.

When i arrive at work (after a 12mile drive) my gauge always said I have more fuel than when I started out! Wish that was the case....

I assume its something to do with the sender and/or gauge getting hotter as the car warms up.....

I always fill up at about an indicated 1/4 full. I can get about 43 litres in at this stage. I have given up on using the odometer as my mpg seems to vary so much dependng on my driving (15-17mpg around town driving and upto 30mpg on the motorway!)
