Why did it have to happen?

Without more details, my first thought is flat battery...

Check the metal relays in the passenger footwell are clicking when you turn the igition on. Does the rev counter flicker at all when the engine cranks over?

Happened to me about 6 months ago. My problem was one of the relays situated on a flying lead next to the ECU. Only cost a £5 to put right and has been bril eversince.

NUGGS.... The battery is OK.Car cranks over fine but no sound from fuel pump or stepper when ignition is switched on..... When I said "it had to happen" it was because I`ve been a bad lad and not had him out for a run for two weeks.... As we know, they dont like not been run...

Iain.... Dont think there is any relay noise from N/S/Front but will double check 2 nite. Same with rev counter, i didnt really notice.!!

For refference the alarm/immobiliser is CAT 1 Clifford. Tried switching alarm on and off just in case but made no difference.... I had the battery out to charge a couple of weeks ago so it is possible i disturbed rellays. Also had dash top up to sort heator cables a few weeks ago but didnt notice fuel cut off mentioned in other threads.... If this has tripped would it effect stepper motor circuit opperation.??? or have i two faults ???

Ahhh... makes more sense now

Sounds to me like the immobiliser could be the prime candidate then...

Defintely check the ECU and Fuel pump relays - the two metal ones in the loose 'loom' in the passenger footwell. They're both the same so swap them round and see if you get the fuel pump priming sound which would indicate one fault relay. Might be corroded/loose relay connections too.

Also check the wires haven't fallen off the fuel pump itself - silly spade connector, look under/inside of the LH rear wheel, Should just be reachable lying on the ground.

check the connections to the fuel pump, a poor connection at the pump caught me out recently with similar symptoms.

IF the engine will turn over its not the immobaliser. Id check

1) make sure the ecu connector is secure, they have been known to come loose
2) find the relays next to the ecu. the main relay should click once when the ignition comes on. other should click when the ignition comes on, and then again few seconds later ( this is the fuel pump relay which comes on to prime the fuel rail)
3)check the leads to the fuel pump at the rear of the car
4) If everything seems fine up to that point then check the fuel pump leads with a voltmeter( you'll need someone to turn the ignition on and off)
5) if there is power comming to the pump then the pumps died...

Happened to me a while back - I thought it was the immobiliser or a flat bettery but after I had been in the footwell for a few minutes moving wires around so I could get to the battery everything sprang back to life. Loose relay , problem solved.

It is also worth checking that they are earthing properly. This happened to mine recently and the electro-mechanic was told by TVR that there was too much load on the one relay to power the injectors and the pump so he hard wired the pump to an alternate relay and ta da problem was solved ?? But he also ran a new earth from the relay back to the engine block.

Prob sorted. Thanks to all who replied.Faulty relay on `flying loom.` behind battery.Controled fuel pump and stepper. First mechanical/electrical failure in 12 mths/7000 miles. I guess public opinion was right about these TVR`s being unreliable...!!!!! I bet Vauxhall or Ford would like to have this sort of `unreliability` !!!!! Top car. Still smiling.
