I have been battling with myself to get a slightly louder (read look at me) sound for the chim. Does just removing the Pre-cats make that much difference? I dont want to spend '000s and do not really want to mess with her too much as she runs perfectly at present (always has done) and do not want to put of future buyers with major modifications.

THe cherry bomb mod would do the trick but is that a step too far?

The pre-cats make hardly any difference (mines got ACT stainless de-cats), the cherry bombs make it sound so much better though without being over the top. For that you need to do what Hughsie11 has done and have it fully de-catted!

The MOT then worries me, surely you would have to put the Cats back in for it to pass emissions?

Pre-cat removal shouldn't cause a problem (it doesn't me).

IIRC, the ACT system allows the main cat to be re-inserted easily prior to the MOT...

Pre-cats keep emissions down when cold, by time car is warm, main cat doing its thing (or so I was told!) theory therefore that MOT when car warm = no problem

I have s/s ACT sans pre-cats, and deffo noticed a nicer, richer sound, and louder in the cabin, as prior to this I could cruise with mo more intrusion than a normal car - not so anymore

Odd, I've got exactly the same but didn't notice much of a difference at all. May well be because my old ones were ticking louder than a room full of grandfather clocks.

Just got a quote for £195 plus VAT to remove the rear silencers and put straight through pipes on therefore leaving the Cats in place. Quite tempted I have to say...

Sounds expensive. My cherries cost £140 plus VAT at Offords.
Have you tried Austec as they're straight throughs sound very good.

Sorry to be thick - but what is a cherry bomb?

A Cherry Bomb is a silencer which is a tube filled with wadding, with a perforated tube through the centre. Much like the can on the end of a 2 stroke expansion chamber.

I don't think my neighbours agree or the guy who said there was something wrong with my car as the exhaust pops at will

How much was it if you don't mind me asking? I assume this doesn't effect MOT or emissions in any way?
Glad I asked if they are cheaper.

I had mine done at Offords and the car has gone from a burble to a gutteral sound. The neighbours who have never spoken to me, are now giving me some very funny looks. I bet they speak to me soon, early Sunday mornings probably. and then

I think the neighbours love mine...........NOT

Especially when i got home at around 3.30-4.00 am after the midnight tunnel run.........or when i start it up at 6.30 every saturday morning, the garage is in the back garden so to speak and my driveway goes down the side of the house with a 6ft fence and where i live at the end of a cul-de-sac the houses are quite close to each other so the sound of the car rebounds from the house to the fence etc (keep meaning to get out there with the camcorder sometime )

Right Austec it is then, I'm just going to do it. As I park on a public street where ever I can I can spread the noise polution to everyone! (although I wouldn't call it polution ) Now do I get the ACT induction kit at the same time........
