is technology a good thing?

Vote PAS
Vote NO PAS

let me know why?

Also has anyone fitted after market PAS to a previously non PAS car i.e. earlier models?

I think it's very much down to individual choice and what happens to be on the car you like. I've driven both and they're both fine. I think you do loose some feel with PAS but then slow speed maneuvers are easier so it's up to you really.

Personally I'd vote 'Yes' but it wouldn't stop me buying a car that was otherwise perfect.

Some people have retro-fitted PAS, have a search around.

I was told by a dealer that PAS cars attract a premium ( about 25p by the looks of it) but I think its down to individual choice try a few and decide

So I take it as a vote for NO PAS

If you are going to spend a lot of your driving time in town and require a lot of tight work or slow driving PAS... If howver you are buying the Chim to be used as God intended and get out on the open road non PAS... I have no PAS and find parking ok but it does get hard work if crawling around car parks etc.

No power means something less to go wrong, which is a bonus.I drive an old car r/w/d as a daily none power and its if anything more heavy than the TVR,alot more turns anyway, I guess it depends if your previous car was an XJS then you may think its a must !!.I have noticed some very noisey pumps on say 96 car.

Personal choice but I after driving both I would say definitely with PAS. Still feels fine to me. At low speeds and parking non-assisted was a bit of a pan in the backside.

Some people will say that the non-assisted doesn't have enough feel, but my car feels good to me.

before buying my chim I tried a few, some with & some without PAS

For me, the difference in steering feel (not a lot IMO & far less difference than comparing PAS and non-PAS MX-5's) between the two was negated by the low speed benefits of PAS & not wanting my wife to develop Tessa Sanderson type shoulders from maneuvering the car.

Just a thought...would a non-PAS car have more BHP than the equivelent PAS car? Because of not having the PAS-pump attached to the engine?

my experience is to drive both and take your pick.

Personally, I drove a PAS car and didn't like the cornering 'feel' and would opt for a non-PAS car every time, but each to his (or her) own)!

Only if you are trying to sell one without, of course if you are selling one with PAS the dealer will mention that people like the extra feel a non-PAS car gives so they attract a premium instead.

It's all rubbish really, it's whatever you feel, feels right when you drive it.

PAS definitely. Had a V8S before the Chimaera and no PAS is no fun parking.

As someone mentioned above, PAS is another thing to go wrong !!! See my next post (new topic coming just above this one !)

However, despite what i'm about to post - PAS has the yes vote for me, gives the car a slightly more refined feel.

Havinig driven an S3 with no PAS for the last three years, i like the refineness of PAS.

No PAS, less to go wrong.

Still chuckle about the last PistonFest; James Agger was trying to convince me that my car with no PAS was worth less than one with PAS, while not 25m away a Chim sat there with a sign in the windscreen asking if anyone had a spare PAS pump to get the car home!

It's funny how whenever there is a PAS/no PAS debate going on here (which is often ) there will almost always be a current thread on someone who has a problem with their PAS - PAS Help. Opinion seems divided on whether it is a better drive with or without, but the no PAS argument on "more things to go wrong" just keeps getting proved.
