Delay Module and Non starting II
Discussion
..so having pulled the battery forward from its tray and clipped the delay relay on the way down, I have replaced the offending unit and trusted all to be well. (see previous thread)
Sadly this is not the case. The whole car is still dead, I have it hooked up to the landrover battery which has plenty of charge in it, but I have nothing in the car.
I have removed and checked every fuse I can find, and they are all OK, have pulled out all the relays on the plate in case I have damaged any of them either and they are all fine too, basically everything in the attached photos has had a removal, visual inspection and replacement, and the whole car (including permanent live such as electric windows) is still dead.
I'm now running short on ideas, the car was just fine till I pulled the battery forward into the footwell to charge it... anyone got any ideas at all, I'm getting most pissed off by now as I'd hoped to use my car over the christmas/new year break
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,
Forgive me if I'm stating the bleedin' obvious - but have you checked that the battery to earth is ok?
From your previous thread it appears that you've got no juice at all. If you've got a meter, check continuity from battery earth to chassis or something else solid.
Regards,
Paul.

You say the car is dead, can you clarify
does for example the clock work? or the courtesy light?
these should be permanent live feeds
if these don't work at all, then possibly an earth fault as previously said, try routing another cable to earth( the chassis somewhere) see if that get you some basic circuits working, it probably won't allow you to start the car as the cable won't handle the amps, but will help prove where the fault lies

ok check that, i asked about the clock etc, as the window motors take a few amps, especially if the window is a bit sticky, a courtesy light/clock is almost nothing, so a very basic check.
If you get nothing with the fly lead, and the normal earth connection looks ok, it may be you've dislodged/damaged the main feeds into the fuse box, short of pully the fuse box forward and checking i'm not sure what else, you'll be able to do, You might need an auto electrician then

ITS ALIVE !!!
internal fault with existing battery (possibly caused by the bump into the floorpan) was causing some sort of short circuit despite having the landrover battery in parallel with it. Once I'd completely removed the old battery from the equation I was most pleased to hear the alarm going off, the doors locking me in the car and the boot solenoid going mad..
Much obliged,
Matt.
PS off to buy a new battery now (605 A)

Just had a thought about my earlier suggestion to use the chassis as an earth - the chassis powder coating might not be such a good conductor!
Look for an earth strap on the engine block or on the starter motor - there's sure to be an earth strap there.
One other thought - I think you said you've tried another battery from a Land Rover - did you put it across the car's battery or substitute it for the car's battery? If you put it 'across' the existing battery, there's a possibility that the car's battery might be totally fd effectively draining the Landie's battery of any useful power.
