Hi all, currently own an S2 and thinking seriously of a 4 litre chim, 47 young years old, no convictions etc etc, what can I expect to pay on a car valued about ten grand. Can I get it insured as a classic as per my S2? cheers for any advice lads.

Hi Steve,
I have just gone from an S1 to a Chim 4 litre (3 weeks ago).I originally got a quote for a 95 car which came in at £350 but eventually bought a 97,when I phoned up to get it insured I got the dreaded Ah,I'm sorry sir we can't insure it on a classic policy because it is'nt ten years old and ended up paying £560.so roll on next year!
Never mind though,it's worth it!!!

By the way 37 years old,no convictions, car garaged etc.

Hope this helps your decision.

Paul.

Hi Steve
Just insured my 1995 4.0l chim with privilege for £350 me and GF I am 46 GF couple of years older. This is on a standard car policy (which is what I wanted as I had a full no claims discount not being used) 8k miles per year includes NCD protection legal cover etc.
They beat Tesco by about £60.

Hagerty have just insured my Chim 500 97 for £280 under a classic policy despite being less than 10 yrs old 01327 856002. Very Helpful & knowledgeable too.

AON will do teh same but likely to be more expensive

Ok, Piston heads policy prevents me from slagging off any company by name. However, be wary of any one who offers to 'quote you happy'!!!. Whilst I was, indeed, quoted happy, the absolutely dire service I got when I tried to make a 'no-fault' claim was shocking - time after time after time. Now very unhappy. Don't even get me started on the renewal process where the electronic documents had got mixed up and my claim against someone else had suddenly become their claim against me, with a subsequent loss of No Claims Discount! Took forever to sort out, with a lot of hassle and big phone bill. Luckily, a 4 litre Chimaera and a GSX-R mean that no matter how bad they were, they still can't take the smile off my face.
Alas, the Mrs just had her car vandalised in the street and is experiencing a similar level of hassle from the same company.
Whilst I can't get away with going to more detail here, happy to go into greater details via email if you want. Hopefully Big Al is happy with this post!
Seriously: Don't just get quoted happy - go with someone that keeps you happy.

Hi,

Ive just insured my TVR Chimera 4.0, im 25 for £630 with Tesco...no one could even get close!

One things worth mentioning when I added my bird on as a named driver it bought the premium down nearly £200.00...When I rang up they said it was becuase I would be a more sensible driver...

As I left the work car park sideways I can safely say that doesnt apply to me Tesco!

Thanks

Neal

That's helped me a lot. I will be 23 by the time I get in line to get one. If I manage it under £1000 I will be happy.

Probably not. I siad i'd be happy with it, but I know it's not going to happen. I'm sure insurance woes would be outdone by the joys of driving one though...

I could have got mine for this much but, because i had not had a fast car in the last 5 years all the cheap insurance companies would not cover me so £380 was the best i got, though next year Hagerty sounds good.

check cancellation policies etc.

There usually is a 14 day, from policy start standard no fee cancellation. I just signed with elephant but will now cancel and look at hagerty and others to get the price down. I am 33 and elephant quoted me 700! fully comp.

For you all who insure with Hagerty, is it a fully comp service?

Thanks

crikey - *out of interest8 i did a quote last night for myself on a £12k chim. at 25 with 1yrs ncb (it's a long story but cos of business our car insurance is in the missus' name)... and that came out at just over a grand... 300 quid off for 8 yrs more driving experience and ncb(??) doesn't sound too clever...
