Hi all, 2,000 miles into Chim ownership, and i notice i have collected quite a few stone chips on the bonnet paintwork.

I know that the level of chipping will depend on how hard and far i drive, but at this rate i will need it painting every 6 months!

How often do you have your bonnet re-sprayed, and roughly at what cost?

Is there anything i can do to reduce the impact of stones (any paint treatment or transparent surface covering) - other than driving slowly, which is not an option

PS
sorry if this is an old question, but the forum search facility doesn't seem to be working.

I had the front of mine resparyed for the same reason, cost about £800. To protect it I had it armourfended (3M paint protection film - about another £400)
I know some people don't like the paint films as you can see the joins if you look fairly closely but I think it looks better than the stone chips and it does the job well.
You have to wait a month or so after the respray before they will put the film on though.

Keeping a decent distance from the car in front also helps.

David,

Try www.tvrcc-berks.co.uk/ and click on the Purple pages.

Also, some people use Langka to touch up the stone chips. The website for the UK agent is www.frost.co.uk

I've had my Griffith 7 years since new and covered 20k miles, and yes it's got a few small chips but to be honest I touch them in every now and again when I polish it and it looks almost as good as new. Have yo utried touching them in? Rich...

Gareth, Colin - many thanks for the information, i have to admit to having never heard of Langka, and the armourfending sounds like a good idea.

Rich, i'm astonished that you have managed for so long - there must be something wrong with my driving!

So, another daft question, where do i get some touch up paint matched to the colour of my car?

Thanks again all

The tvrbodyshop in bristol will post out the touch up paint. I got a fair sized pot from them for approx £15. I think it helps if you know the paint code.

Done a few track days too and I drive it! Honestly though get the right colour touch up paint and a tiny modeling paint brush then spend a half an hour touching in. Works wonders...

Hi,
Does anyone know the paint code for Halcyon Midas Pearl (orangey yellow)

My griff was resprayed shortly after leaving the factory original colour was VW nugget yellow so paint code under bonnet is now wrong.

Took it to local 'Chips Are Us' but no joy matching codes.

Thanks.
