Changing headlight bulb
Discussion
Trying to change my headlight bulbs to something brighter.
I have a 97 450 with the hatch in the wheelarch and have managed to get the hatch off (I think the previous owner had shares in the mastic company) and now realise that you can't, even now, see what you have to do. I am prepared to have a go at doing it by feel, but if someone had a picture of the way the bulbs connect to the back of the headlight it would be very helpful.
I know that there is a spring clip to undo, but I am frightened to undo it in case I can't get it back together again.
Anyone got a photo? Please
Nothing of use in the handbook or the bible. I have looked.

Have you got the wheel off? If so, you ought to be able to see the back of the lamp quite easily. The lamp is dead ahead of the hole in the wheel arch. IIRC it's a typical arrangement with a wire spring clip keeping the bulb holder in position in the back of the reflector. Good luck.
Did mine last week, very simple once you have undone the clip and take a look at it. I don't have a photo but simply lift the clip which holds the bulb assembly inplace, it will spring open then the bulb assembly will come out. I was a little unsure when i first took a look at it but it's very simple. Feel the fear and do it anyway!

Thanks for the replies.
No I had not got the wheel off.
The only way I could get the trolley jack under the car was through the wheel arch with the wheel on full lock. This way I could jack the car up, but can't get the wheel off.
I will try again tomorrow with the jack supplied with the car. Think I remember someone saying that they had to use the supplied jack to lift the car enough to get a trolley jack underneath. What do you do?
