Car Played up twice, any ideas?

First time, I noticed a huge increase in the popping and banging from the exhaust and when I dipped the clutch the revs dropped to the 4 or 500 mark. Turned off, left for 30 secs and she's been ok... till just. Dipped the clutch and she stopped, the engine just died, although I'd still got power. The dreaded Mil light was on as well. Tried to start her but she wouldn't fire. 3rd go, after waiting for 30 secs. she started and has been no problem coming home. Any ideas anyone ?

MIL light on = fault code recorded.

Will have to go and see Ian at Middlewich tomorrow after work to get the fault code checked. It's a new A F M ... I think.
