Can someone or several people (incase of differences) PLEASE do a favour for me as i may have a dilema that i wont know the result of for about a week.

What i'm in need of is...............
for people to measure the distance from the top of the tyre to the wheel arch in either inches or finger (technical aye) measurements, front and back wheels, when i say finger measurements i mean how many fingers can you fit between tyre and wheel arch stacked upwards.

Or is there a set distance that it should be from ground level to wheel arch??

Glyn.

I asked this a while back and a few people said that you can't really trust the body alignment. Basically they are fitted by one guy saying "down a bit left, no no, too much, up a bit".

I was told to measure the chassis height off the ground.

But if it helps I can almost squeeze in 2 fingers but not quite. About an inch and a half I reckon. Mine isn't on standard suspension though.

Well i think that this was the approach taken when having 2 new shocks fitted recently, only the person eyeing them up must have had too many the night before.

Cheers for the reply dan.

There is a pic of my Chim on events/meets/travel south coast run 26th march on page 3 for people to view and see if it looks odd to them.

Bit difficult to tell from the photo especially if you have the power down at that time but it does look lower at the back.

Easy answer, measure each end of the outriggers on both sides of the car to the ground and the rear end should be about 8/10mm higher than the front.

In the defence of the dealer, the shocks and springs do sometimes settle 20mm after a bit of driving, run it back to them, I'm sure they will soon sort.

Hood, I have a 400 and appears to sit nicely to me and mine measures:

Front ground to arch = 600mm (25mm from top of tyre to arch) - Bridgestone
Rear ground to arch = 660mm (35mm from top of tyre to arch) - Toyo's

Mine is all adjustable and around the above on the front and 2 fingers on the back - seems about right looking at it side on and from driving. Spring ratesAND length are really inportant too.

Floor to middle arch Rear 670mm Front 615mm
Tyre to arch Rear 55mm Front 30mm.

Always thought the back end of mine looked abit highter than my prevouis Tiv's

Is this right ? Can it be adjusted?

Hood, do you have the right size tyres, and have you checked pressures (could expalin the 5mm difference on the front axle)?

PS.. Just looked the the pic in you profile and the baby looks to be sitting a little low at the back

The pic in my profile is an old one of the car (before i had it) and was not really the foto that was causing any concern although since then has had new tyres all round.

Just as an update........
Chim was picked up at around 11 am and i got a phonecall from them this evening saying they had looked at it and adjusted the shocks, also that it had hit the stops which would have been the worrying banging that we heard on Sunday, there was no damage done to anything and they will take it out for a decent test drive on Monday and all being well i'll have my P&J back Monday late afternoon.
