I managed to get the Chim out over the weekend for a “full test” of the new clutch. (Luckily I have found a good stretch of private road!)

The clutch work fine, but I did encounter another issue that I am looking for some advice on. At just over 140mph the bonnet popped open and then proceeded to “float” at just below eye line. I have done some searching and it would appear that this is not an isolated incident. Other than the approach of drilling holes and fitting posts with “R” pins are there any other suggested solutions to this problem? While I don’t get many opportunities to explore this area of the cars performance it would be nice to know that the bonnet is going to stay attached to the rest of the car and in the correct position!

Hi, I suffered this problem many a time on my old chimaera!!, Is yours a pre facelift bonnet do you know? It was around that time that they started changing them. Mine was pre-facelift to start with and it popped open many a time at around the said speed. They cure for me was to fit the little lip spoiler under the front that they should have but due to the clearance a lot get ripped off and just left off. They are only about 12-15 quid if I remember and just self tap in underneath.
After a slight issue with some blind girl reversing in a 4x4, I later replaced the bonnet for a new face lift one and this also stopped it.
Hope this helps, cheers

Hey this sounds interesting, had this happen to me a couple of times, first time it was little unnerving as it was dark and I was following my mates LW Cerbie....so we may of been over the legal limit I just thought that I had not fastened the bonnet down properly...mine hasn't got the front splitter, looks like another £15.00 to spend then....

Cheers,

Hi RCA, thanks for the advice. Mine is a facelift model but I will check to see if the front splitter is still there. Sounds like it will be £15 well spent although ….. which is likely to come first ……. another chance to drive at over 140mph or a splitter removing hump in the road?
