Stereo AND door open buttons not working !!!
Discussion
Hello all - new poster here. I drive a 99 4.0 Chimaera.
I tried to change the Pioneer stereo yesterday with another slightly better one. I checked Pioneer's site to see what the wiring was meant to be, colour codes etc.
On the original, I noticed the red lead from igintion was joined onto the yellow continuous power lead and and into the stereo. The stereo only switched on when the ignition was on.
So I thought I would wire the replacement in the same way. Half way through installation I connected the positive and negative power leads to the stereo and switched on the ignition, the stereo powered up .... so good so far.
I went to connect the first speaker and then test, but when I switched on the ignition the stereo did not light up. To cut a long story short, I checked the voltage across the yellow lead and red lead individually and I didn't get a reading. I checked the stereo fuse and the 2Amp fuse on the yellow lead, both ok.
I noticed then that neither door open buttons were working and the immobiliser key immobilises but does not lock/unlock the car !!!
I contorted my body into shapes I didn't know were possible for me to be able to check ALL the fuses in the fuse box (what a stupid location for a fuse box !!!), they were all fine. Obviously I didn't check any of the relay type box things.
I am pretty sure the 2 are linked because I never interfered with ANYTHING apart from the stereo's leads. All other electrics are fine.
Any ideas ?? I don't wanna have to send it to TVR for repair, I'm broke LOL !!!!
Thanks in advance
Kevin

Hi Kevin, As you have checked all the fuses already not too sure but are the leads still connected to the stereo? If so I would unplug them all and give that a try. I don't have my bible here in Oz but if you have one or can see in the manual, are the stereo and door fuse the same fuse? If so It would be worth replacing just as a check. Can't really see what else could be affected from changing a stereo apart from fuses!!
Yeah it is still connected. I should have disconnected everything and started from the beginning really but I was running late so decided to leave it all connected.
I don't have a Bible but I think I will buy one ... seems like the only resource worth having as an owner. The manual says fuse 8 is the door look, but its also the reverse light and speed sensor (feed to the speedo ??). I'll have to double check to see if they are still working.
There are fuses for the battery feed to ECU and Ignition but none to the stereo in the fuse box. The fuse for the stereo (yellow lead 2A) which is directly behind the stereo is ok though.
I'll try disconnecting the stereo and starting from there.
On another note, my alarm siren is not sounding (happening before this stereo incident), the lights flash but the siren does not sound. It came back from repair recently in this condition and I cannot be bothered to send it back to Bristol (I am in London) to be sorted out. Any ideas ?

Does it still have the standard Meta system, Its not unheard of for the sirens to pack in on them. I think a few peoples have just stopped!!
The siren is right down in the front of the nose, bit awkward to get at but if you have a look you might be able to see if any wires have come out.
If the stereo fuse blows in the fuse box it does not normally mean it will blow on the yellow lead, I would take out and check all your 10 amp fuses in the fuse box, A pain I know!
Also don't believe 100% which fuse the manual says it is!!
cheers

Turns out to be a blown 15A fuse in the fuse box that tested OK with the continuity tester !!!!
Replaced it and the door buttons and stereo started working.
TVR's workmanship is so 2 bob that I cannot believe they have the front to charge what they charge for theirs cars.
Standard speaker colour coding is not used and its a basic free for all. Nothing that TVR did matched Pioneer's recommendations !!! I now have a flat battery as a result of lengthy testing and trial and error procedures.
I love the car to bits but ...... daaaaamn !!!!
Thank you all for your help though !!!
