Mobil 1 ?

Nowadays with the new oils can you use other oils like 10w 40 Magnetec, or is it a case of Mobil 1 only.

With the development of engine oils we should be able to use a variety, shouldn't we??

Rob,
It is FFG (not Mrs FFG) - just can't be bothered to log out/log in. Uses a lot less oil tha it used to when the Mobil 1 was in it. Apparently a much better quality oil due to the ester content - like magnatec and reduced sheering at high temps - not really sure what this means but it sounds good and is good enough for me.
I don't have any affiliation to opie either but they have been very helpful on PH and provide a quality service at very good prces (arrived today and ordered Friday) - did try and deliver yesterday but we weren't in.

OK, I think I'm going a bit nuts BUT, I have just put Pro s 10-50 in my chim (about 1000 miles ago) and it seems allot happier, it revs more freely and SEEMS to have a bit of extra power. I changed from the Mobil 15-50 and I cant believe the difference it has made. Surly it cant just be down to the oil?

Put castrol RS in mine I think it runs better,
or I may be trying to convince myself it does.

I've wondered about this subject since I found out my TVR mechanic uses Magnatec 10/40, I have two mates with Chims who both use Mobil 1 and gave me a funny look when I told them I use Magnatec. Thing is these engines are a little clackity anyway, like most older pushrod OHV V8s. I would think it's more about oil consumption and engine longevity… I’ll take the suggestion and try Silkoline next time and see how it goes!
