Can anyone confirm if its okay to add antifreexe via the swirl pot in Chim 500 or will this cause an airlock?

Also how far below the neck on the overflow/expansion tank should the antifreeze be? Mine was changed recently by an independant and theres now only about 1cm on the bottom of the expansion tank, when i test its strength it appears to be only water! Steve Heath doesn't seem clear.

Any advise?

The coolant level on mine is about 1/2 way up the header tank.
If I put more in it obviously chucks some out as it always settles at that level.
I can't see why you can't fill via the header tank with antifreeze, it gets hot when the engine runs so water circulates through it, all gets mixed up together. This is not like the old fashioned expansion tanks that cars used to have where there was no flow to the rest of the system.
IMO thats right, unless anyone has other thoughts.....

As far as I know should be no problem.
The swirl tank should be full to the top, if not fill to the brim. (put neat anti freeze in the pink stuff)
On mine 98 4.0l the header tank only ever has about an inch in the bottom, any more and it spits it out.
If the swirl tank keeps on emptying I would suspect a leak.

Ps it took my car about 3 topups of the swirl tank before things settled down.
Check when engine is totally stone cold.
