Hi

Put a deposit down on my first TVR last nite and will picking it up next week, it needs some TLC but thats how i wanted it!
Iv already got some questions, to get myself ready for what i have let myself in for
Firstly, what ECU does a 1993 4.3 Chim use? I have some diagnostic equipment but need to know what ill be going into!?
It has a strange miss fire between 3.5 & 4k rpm, now it doesnt feel like a lead or plug problem becuase between that rmp its like all 8 cylinders are dropping out breifly, is this a common problem that requires little worrying or ££££ for a new ECU?
Lastly, the mileometer on the speedo doesnt work, i have been told if you send it back to TVR they can fix this for £100??

Ill probably be asking quite a few questions in the next month so try not to get too mad with me

Thank

Jay

welcome aboard the chim rollarcoaster
has it highs oh yes
and some times lows (no really bad ones for me yet )
but there great
and heart stopping(stuck in traffic yesterday for 40 mins and everythign getting really hot) but engine stayed at 92-96 deg c
was worrying engine pressure dropped to about 20 (normally 45 and is again)
whew
you will have full
and you can actullay work on these cars unlike newer cars where you cannot work on anything
welcome ....

ECU is the standard Range Rover Lucas 14CUX - but with a TVR chip. A 14CUX code reader should work fine. I've seen a 14CUX go on ebay for just over £5!! However your problem might be resolved by checking all the electrical connections in the engine bay. I'd start there.

Misfires really aren't uncommon and there's a load of reasons why. I had a few problems which I am still solving but dodgy HT leads and coil was one. Do a forum search for misfire.

Thanks for the replies people, im looking forward, but on the same hand quite nervous about picking it up and starting a slipery £££ slope.
Anyway, work will be starting this weekend to try and solve some of these little problems!

I had that exact same problem on the racer over the weekend, in testing it had no grunt between 3.5k and 4k just a big flat spot, no missing just no power, it's turned out to be some iffy wiring around the coil and a poor signal between the negative of the coil and pin 39 of the ECU. This meant that the signal wasn't proberly getting to the ECU to fire the injectors, hence lean running, flat spots etc etc

Check all the ignition wiring is good!
Regards
Iain

Hi JD welcome to TVR ownership, I'm sure you will never wipe the grin off your face. One tip, stay on the Chimaera (and Griffith) pages for good sound technical advice but don't read the General TVR Stuff and Gassing as all the doom-mongers and whingers will just depress you. Get out and enjoy it! Rich...
