Help!!!!!!!! I am trying to replace a rear stop/rail light, the manual refers to removing a plastic backing which 'snaps' away revealing the bulbs. This is not the case with my Chim, instead there is a round metal 'socket' into which each light bulb goes, with no apparent means to remove the bulb or socket. I am loath to start trying to unscrew this light bulb holder in case it cracks something. Surely there is a simple solution?

On my chim the back lights have quite a long plastic bit which holds all the bulbs together
in a line. The lights are from a MK3 fiesta turned upside down.
The plastic bit is released by lifting a tab at each end of the bulb holder (top and Bottom)
which then releases the lamps for easy changing of the bulbs.
So basically the back of the light comes away with the bulbs attached to the backing
plate and the wiring loom.
A bit difficult to explain, but hope it helps, sorry dont know how to post photo's otherwise I
would have taken a picture of the lights for you.
Cheers,
Paul.

Assuming it's a 'facelift' post-97(ish) car, then it's one area the 'Bible' hasn't updated for the facelift. Simply grasp the threaded metal bit and twist in the unscrew direction...

Foxed me first time I tried to change a bulb - then when someone showed me, I couldn't understand why I hadn't worked it out - easy when you know how!

try http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nickkay/ for a pic.

Edited to add:
Make sure you fit the replacement the right way up - it is possible to jam the bulb in 180deg rotated, so that it either doesn't work, or lights the dim 'tail' as stop and the bright 'stop' for tail.
Ask a certain indi north of me for details....

They are actually not upside down, they are the right way up, its the griff ones that are upside down. But they are MK3 Fiesta ones though. Just thought I would point that out for the anoraks like me!

Nick_Chim: Just looked at your homepage and some useful info there. The person you bought the car from must have been "seriously" short if they had to raise the seat by 300mm !!!!!!

They were seriously short, but you are right, 30mm short not 300. The thought of a 12" seat raiser does amuse though... I do know a Chim (now Tam) driver who could do with that... (no names, no pack drill...)
Ta for the correction - now corrected! Must update it for the latest items - wing mirror, tyres and plug leads...
