At a loss now, car still cuts out after about an hours driving. Leave for about 30 seconds and starts and runs perfectly. New fuel pump, regulator, plugs, leads, shrouds, ign. amplifier, dissie cap. ecu checked and no earth problems. Any ideas ?

Do you mean the charcoal filter?Have you tried running with the filler cap cmpletely loose.I had to put a vent in my cap to stop vacuum build up making my tank try to implode!

If I had to guess, I'd say fuel pump relay. But if you have access to basic diagnostic equipment it would better to monitor the fuel/spark when it happens and see what is going wrong.

Sounds like you've already tried the 'replace everything and hope the problem goes away' approach, so now would be a good time to diagnose the problem instead. When the engine dies, is the fuel pump still running? Do you have a spark? Does the tacho continue to read accurately as the engine spins down?

Engine dies like a stone. Pretty sur fuel pump is dead also. Engine spins and mil light comes on. After approx 20 to 30 secs she starts and runs perfectly. Perplexed

Check what the tacho does: does it freeze, instantly go to 0 rpm, or follow the engine speed as it spins down? When you try to restart, does the tacho show the engine speed while it is cranking?

Also, I suggest you connect a test light to the fuel pump to show whether it switches off before or after the engine stops.

Waggle the crappy wiring that goes to and the from the coil - it'll be that. Have a very close look you'll see its all heat damaged exposed wires. Someone forgot to tell TVR that V8's get hot & you need to make the wiring looms to suit.

If you still have Cat 1 alarm ( Whatever make.), try bypassing the fuel cut out circuit. The immobiliser unit can fail internally even with the car running !!! It gets too hot. Leaving for a few mins allows it to cool enough to re start.... If you leave it bypassed dont forget to tell your insurance company. Steve.

The Griff just died on the way back from Santa Pod just after it started to hail. After putting the roof on we started to look for the problem. All the lights on the dash/speedo lit up when we turned the ignition key but the alarm wouldn't set. Initial thought was the immobiliser but this was replaced with an upgraded one less than 12 months ago. The cause was that the main ignition fuse had fell out!!!! Can't recall but I think it was fuse number 13 and was a 20 or 25A (I think) - It sat in the middle of a run of the same rating fuses. Not sure if yours maybe loose causing intermittent connections? Well wort changing it and maybe taping it in to see if that helps - at least it's a no cost effort and should take 10 minutes tops.

Only need to leave her turned off till the immobiliser light flashes, approx 20 secs, then she starts as normal.

doe it do it while running or while war, / hot at saying filling for petrol - will not start - that is a fuel pump related realeted to the alarm system. If not still sound like a relay of somesort as Green says.

Petros. As i said above. Check the immobiliser part of the alarm. By pass the unit and see if all is well. If leaving the car untill IMMOBILISER re sets sorts it out then it will more than likely be the IMMOBILISER unit that is loosing continuity through its circuits as it gets hot.

Well, looks like young Ian at Middlewich has found the problem with my car. He's swapped ECUs over with another car and it's broken down after about an hours driving ( The other car that is. )Not the best news I could have had but at least we know what the problem is now. Whew, Tvrs, gotta love em, eh? Cheers Ian for all that hard work and refusal to give in. Still think your new overalls look very gay though !!!
