Happily hammeriting me lower rear wishbone t'other day (the one that isn't really a wishbone but four angled tubes) ready for copious waxoyling (not for a few weeks, though - avoiding that chemical reaction!) I noticed that there's a second mounting for either:

a) an alternative damper position further back, or,
b) a second whole coilover unit if u wanted it or,
c) something else I've not thought of!.

Of course you'd have to weld a flange on at the top to take it (and modify/lengthen the original bolt), and I don't know what the effects of twin rear dampers would be (racing application?) - BUT, since the second lower mount exists, anyone out there tried it??

Do you have a rear anti-roll bar? If not, it's probably the mounting for that (available on all Griffith 500s IIRC).

Anti roll bar fits onto the front part of the wishbone, well it does on mine

Thanks Ian & Ben - nice idea but I've got an anti-roll bar and it's slung further up the w/bone, joining from underneath - this mount is actually identical to the other lower damper mounting, but six inches to the rear of it - looks as if it's just waiting for another Avo or Leda in it ... ta for the thought tho!

Silly question, its not something like the wishbone being ambidextrous i.e. one part number for fitting it to either side of the car, having the lower suspension seat for both applications just a thought.

Thanks Harry - this was my first thought too & I spent about 30 mins trying to rotate it in my head to imagine if it had 180 degree reflectability (now what's the proper word for this that I once knew at 'O' level maths ). But steam started coming out me ears & (eventually) the answer was no anyway!! As somebody else said on another post recently - is it because i is fik??

Thanks dodger and M@H - "rotational symmetry" - I feel much better now I can describe it. - It still ain't got it though - not thru 90 or 180 or 270 degrees or anything. So if it's not for dual application, what IS is for? Off a '95 chimaera that's just been on a 400 mile trip today - these are just fantastic cars - you kinda forget sometimes - we left Preston headed for the M6 back to Newcastle at a serious rate of knots (rare dry roads & nicely weighted with two peeps & full tank of hopetimax). Didn't miss a beat with those new R-100 Racing Magnecors (ACT) smoothing things out considerably. Will give those two pesky cats something warm to sit on tonight!! Oh well - I guess nobody's got four rear dampers. Thanks guys. Happy Tivving. Tant.
