Recently my water temp guage has started to read erratically. Ambient temp 15deg C and cruising at 70mph it will read 60deg C at best. Today, same ambient it read 75deg C. The fans still cut in and out no matter what the guage says, anywhere between 60 and 80deg C. My question is with the readings all over the place, will the ECU get the wrong info and affect the way the car runs?

My advice is to watch it carefully but to basiccly not trust the gauge at all. as long as the otter switch works.

I have a installed new alloy rad, new gauge (non TVR) made to match and matching sender new otter switch and the temperature on my pre serp engine is still a bit eratic, but as long as the otter keeps the fan switching on and off i have decided its a bit of they all do that sir.

The important thing is to watch for a change of behaviour, if the fans did not switch off i would be worried, but as they are working fine i would just ignore the actual readings, but keep an eye on the behaviour as it gets hotter through the summer.

The ECU uses a seperate sensor to the temp gauge, so it won't effect the ECU.
