fuel temp sender
Discussion
next to the thermo time switch is the fuel temp sender on the top behind the dizzy cap,so there is one there ,if anybody has a 97 4.0 can they take a peep to see if theres has a wire from the top the outboard one is the thermo switch that has a brown conecter just behind that is the fuel temp sender wich is what im interested in
Are you *sure* that's a fuel temp sender? AFAIK, and I've owned 3 V8 Rangies and currently have a Chim, there is no such sensor on the RV8. It does have 3 water temp sensors, though; one for the ECU, one for the gauge, and if fitted, one for the air-con. If it's immediately behind the temp/time switch, it's another water temp sensor...
i spoke to rimmer bros this morning they said theres one there ,i looked at mine last night and there is a sender of some sort there but not connected to anything,i have cleaned the stepper motor but still revs up and down when hot and then cut out ,it starts straight away but the next junction it does the same .rimmer bros said with out that fts connected the engine wasnt getting a proper reading .the sender is on the fuel rail so i wouldnt say it was water related.any help im grateful for .thanks jay.(any ideas what else to check would be great)
The fuel temp sender is screwed into the fuel rail at the front of the engine. Your ECU doesn't use any thermotime switch or themo switch. Cold starting enrichment is controlled by the ECU based on a coolant temp sender screwed into the water jacket at the front of the inlet manifold. These two temp senders (fuel and water) are identical and both use a two-pin 'mini power timer' connector which is the same type used for the injectors.
You'll also find a coolant temp sender for the engine temperature gauge screwed into the water jacket on the inlet manifold, this will typically have a single wire on a spade or stud terminal. Some engines seem to have more than one of these, I guess TVR have just used the spare sender as a convenient way to plug the hole in the manifold.

. I always give it a clean when I do the stepper motor.
