Anyone know who can do wheel alignment on a TVR Chimaera?

I've tried a few of the obvious choices and non of them list the settings!

I'm off to Automedon(Blackpool)in the morning for a full geometry setup on reccommendation from someone on here. I don't know if this will be too far for you but I'm travelling there from Manchester. They reckon it will take about an hour and cost £45.

Having just had my car into a place who said they could do this, who then just tweaked the front tracking, then told me the camber was not adjustable and then charged me £30, I think this is good value.

Needless to say, I've been back on to them, gone ballistic and secured a refund.

Hexham HC set mine up after they fitted some new front wishbones last year. Made a noticable difference and the car felt much more stable too. I'm sure this is done as part of a service too (check and adjust....). Have you hit something to knock it out?

May be worth giving Tony a call.

Cheers

I seem to be scrubbing the inner tread on the front offside, with a pull to the left if I have a light touch on the steering wheel.

Just returned from Automedon - Cup of tea on arrival and a Clarkson DVD to watch. They sorted the car geometry in about an hour, test drove it, pulled and re-centred the steering wheel and it felt great on the way home. They even did a couple of other bits while they were at it. Far cheaper than I expected and a free mug to boot. What more can I say - great lads.

Sounds like a success. Bit far for me though and the back home visit is too far off so it looks like HHC.

I'm taking my Chimaera (post 97) in tomorrow for the full 4 wheel tracking thing after fitting my new Protechs last weekend.

I couldn't see any obvious way to adjust the camber when I was taking the wheels off- is there a special nut/bolt hidden away that normal garages don't know about?

I would take it to a TVR place, but they are all well over an hour away and I really don't have the time this weekend!

Daft question but did they have all the correct settings or did you supply them and what did they charge

Assuming you mean the front, the camber adjustment is via the wishbone/top ball-joint clamp. The bolt holes ate slotted to give a range of positions for the joint in the w/bone but usually the head of the ball-joint prevents much more than about a degree of negative camber being achieved unless some material is removed from the wishbone. If you do play with this, watch out for the spacer in there... it will affect the castor if you get it on the wrong side.

How you getting on with the Protechs?

It all went fairly well- the engineer managed the fronts easily and then the Bible and I were called in to help with the rears. Apart from a hard-to-shift nut, it was OK. The tracking was quite out though, so good to have done it.

Protechs are great. I haven't changed any settings on them yet, but the change cf the old ones is incredible (but that's probably true of any new damper). I need to make the rears a bit stiffer because of the local lanes. They respond very well indeed.

£60 notes, i took the info down, but the man in charge said they had done quite a few for bedlington cars when they did tvr's, and did'nt seem happy about me going along to watch and 'telling him how to do his job'. So i left him to it and it is a different car so he's obviously done something right!
