Anyone else had erratic water temp and oil pressure gauges? They go up and down freely and when you indicate or turn heaters on etc they move about! Im assuming its an earthing problem, iv checked all engine earths but they all seem fine. Is there any other earths that these gauges are connected to which could be causing my problem?

I think I've read there is an earth connection to the chassis under the central console. I could be talking out of my arse. Certainly sounds like a bad earth problem.

I have had this problem and found that it was the earth connection which is situated under the front off-side wheel arch and is easily accessed once the road wheel has been removed.
Undo the nut, clean it up avoiding removing too much tin plating then tighten and cover with vaseline or grease.

It's not the most sensible of places for an earth point !!

Classic bad earth symptoms,
Don't waste your time trying to fix them just run fresh ones.
1 from battery to Chassis and 1 from chassis to engine.
Use nice heavy cable and try and keep the runs as short as practicable.

Andy.

Forgot to ask, were does the earth for the battery go to on the chassis? This could be a cause as iv not checked this one yet!

It goes to a post under the transmission tunnel. (The center consol)
Hard to explain but if you sat in the drivers seat, its not far fro where your left knee would be.

Hope this helps.

Ps to check if it is this one just run a jump lead from the - battery post to a good piece of chassis and see if it improves things.

Good thinking Ill give it a go later on!
