Brake lights not working
Discussion
It shouldn't be anything to do with the clutch work. Have you checked the lamps? It's not unheard of that both need changing. If the speedo, wipers and reversing lights all work, it's unlikely to be a fuse: if they don't, check the fuses.
Beyond that, check the brake light switch connections - two wires go to the switch which is visible in front of the brake pedal high in the footwell. The earth connections to the rear lamp clusters must work, or the tail lamps wouldn't be lit.

Thanks to you bothfor your help, Iwas up at the crack of dawn after thinking all night about it.Checked brake switch first, seemed ok with no loose wires, followed by new bulbs, old ones ok. Then checked Fuse 18 looked ok on inspection but pleased to say a new fuse did the trick! It also sorted a problem with my wipers not parking correctly, pheww! now looking forward to a run out in the dales Sunday with some friends Audi Cab & Honda 2000 gt,
