I filled the car up on saturday (£1.01 a litre for optimax)before i left for pistonfest, i had the car fully laden with tent/clothes etc etc and drove there/around and virtually all the way back (probably could have made it but was below a quarter on the gauge) we had done 265 miles at the point of the petrol stop and didn't want to risk running out of petrol to spoil a brilliant weekend, but this is my point, i have read in the past that people do 200 miles then fill up, and i had done, like i mentioned, 265 miles, i know 99% was motorway/dual carriageway but like i also mentioned the car was FULLY loaded with me and mrs hood and all equipment and clothes so must have evened it out.
anyway like i said on the title of this thread "I LOVE MY CHIM"

I havent had my 4.0 chim for long but i must say the fuel consumption is pretty impressive very good on a run, only if you dont put the lead clogs on.light car big engine syndrome.Hope the weather was good on your journey, weekends been a mixed bag i must say.

I notice a huge difference in fuel consumption if I keep the beast on the motorway in top gear at 70-90 mph compared with country roads changing gear all the time

I think i probably could have got home as i'm now on 285 miles but was spending too much time looking at the fuel gauge so thought better to be safe than sorryb but also like i said originally i was fully loaded so surely, even with the constant speed and top gear etc, must reduce the fuel economy a bit.

I think you'll find that your car has the steel petrol tank which looks bigger than the earlier alloy ones. I've just changed mine (99) back to alloy and it doesn't do as many miles on a tank full.

The best I've got is 300miles out of mine once - all moterway/fast A road diving. This was from a full tank to just below the quarter mark on the gauge - took 45l ti fill it back up again (works out at about 30mpg!!). However on my commute to work (lots of traffic 12mile trip) I average about 160miles (about 17mpg) to the tank!! Worst i've had has been 13mpg...

I have never worked out the mpg since i've had the car, all i normally do is if i fill it up i put the counter back to zero to see how far i get on a tank and have to admit living in south london / surrey border i dont tend to get alot which is why i tried it at the weekend whilst going on a decent run.

Took mine out a couple of weekends ago for 325miles..had great fun and got about 29mpg..which does help with the costs at £1per litre! Nice day out to Devon, hood down, lurvly It needs a clean, reckon I'll take it out later
