I was wondering what the record is for miles driven on one tank of fuel in a Chim???
I have just done 260 in my 4l and had 6 litres to spare. Anyone better this???

On the way to France, a friend in his 4L did Harrogate to Dover, which the AA planner tells me is 280 miles.

I chickened out and filled up on the M25 somewhere, and he must have been running on fumes.

He then compounded it by only putting £5 in (as he didn't want to pay UK prices) only to find that the next fuel stop on the Frog side is a surprisingly long way down the motorway.......

321 out of my 4.0hc - no joke guys - & the trip's accurate too!! Mind you, the engine puts out 0.00 % (vol) carbon monoxide and 014ppm (vol) hydrocarbons at fast idle - so not a complete mystery. Any less & it'd chuck out cleaner air than it sucked in!! And yes - the tank was what you'd call 'numpty empty'

Hmm carefull with this!!, I've got about 250 out of a tank (pure motorway driving). When I filled up there was an almighty vaccuum built up in the tank (nearly sucked me in!!).

Tend to fill-up automatically after 200, since I ran out of petrol a few months back (twat) when I was relying too heavily on the fuel gauge. Ran like shit for a couple of days (as you would imagine!!).

The 'old tank pressure build up (IMHO) really buggers up the gauge reading.

260 is pretty damn good though!!

Yep, about 35 miles if I remember correctly, unles you go to the station just outside the chunnel exit (assuming you used the chunnel). I've driven that part of the A26 on fumes too!

I've had 300 miles from a tank, cupla litres left, didn't really measure. Usually get 220-260 depending on driving conditions.

Have got 320 miles out of a standard 4l Chimaera on motorway runs, with still 3-4 litres left in the tank on filling up.

First day I had the Chim (4.0l 1996 103k miles)I ran out of petrol and put in 58.3 ltrs from empty. Last two tank fulls, taking it easy still but very little motorway driving, gave me 22 mpg and 21 mpg. In detail these would give me a theoretical maximum of 285 and 267miles.
I will never risk going that high, although I do know now that the gauge is absolutely accurate!

Manek - pleased to hear we have (or 'had' ) another 320+ miler - is it just us two or what?? I can see the potential for 340 from someone really trying. 28mpg average well achievable in the right car... day to day I get 280 but mainly m/way.

ps what do you get outa the ford?

The Chimaera was tuned by Mark Adams and not ony did I get an extra 39bhp but more accurate fuelling got me an extra 10% fuel efficiency. hence the long mileages....

Don't get much better out of the Ford 2 litre lump -- around 32mpg on a motorway run at average speeds of mph.

Used to have a 4l Chimaera, managed an indicated 345 miles on 52 litres one time. All motorway and all at legal speeds. Bristol - Oxford - Greenwich - Yoevil. I would have filled up sooner but, as I found there are very few petrol stations open on the A303 late at night.

I knew it! Good effort Robert! NOW we have a record...unless the magic mathematical 350 can be done... (12.8 x 28 = 358.4)

I have seen 240 miles from 10 gallons (Optimax) in the Griff 500, almost all motorway driving from Lytham to West of Cardiff. So if there was another 2 gallons left and I went closer "to the wire" then 260-280 sounds reasonable. I always play safe and assume on Motorways once you've gone 200+ miles you should fill up.

Are you sure about that distance?
