1) buy on condition, the best you can afford
2) if unsure get third party advice
3) budget say £1,000 per 6,000 miles running costs (service plus odds)
4) expect 20 mpg
4) yes, that mileage is dooable easily

I agree with rum runner, get the bible and read it twice (at least) from cover to cover.
If you are not mechanically minded take somone else.
Drive as many as you can before you take the plunge.
Insist on a full history with as much paperwork as you can get.
Dont buy the one with very low miles, it may have been stored for years and a soon as you start driving it more regulary it breaks down with electrical and engine problems.
Buy the best you can afford.
Buy on condition, condition and condition.
Lastly, buy on condition, condition and condition.

Bought mine 2 months ago. Looked at 11 cars before I bought this one. Be patient and you
will be rewarded with a superb car that will have you grinning fron ear to ear.
Buy a shed and it will cost you dear.
Good look.

Hi thanks for the replys , been a bit busy looking for a house etc ,

since posting this i have been thinking of the honda s2000 does anyone have a opion on how the 2 cars compare , i think the sound of the tvr is just to tempting to resist .

can anyone recomend a car hire company i could hire a chim from for the weekend and a s2000 for the next weekend so i'm sure that i'll be happy with the choice .

Thanks again

Go for the Honda. You won't regret it.

I have had both, loved the TVR, hated the S2000, you really need to drive both and make up your own mind, The TVR is much more involving, The Honda will be a lot cheaper to run with typical Honda build quality, but I personally found having to rev the nuts off the thing for decent performance quite tedious after a very short time. I have found the Boxster to be a good compromise between the two.

I have driven both as well as many others, I bought the Chim for the following reasons.
1. The sound (need i say more)
2. Its involving to drive (makes trips go faster when your having fun)
3. The looks (I always smile when I walk back to it in the carpark)
4. Lust (even though I own one I still always turn and watch others when they go past, and wind down the window to listen)

Why should you head rule your heart

Haven't driven an S2000 but its -

The sound!
The looks! Does make me keep wanting to look at it, and others like you say.
The feel of driving it. Its so cosy inside. So nice at night too with all the dials lit up - It feels special and not like a 'normal' car.
Oh, and its effortlessly fast. Not THE fastest thing on the road but near enough
