HC how to tell?
Discussion
400HC badges cost around £10. Check the paperwork and make sure. Apart from stripping the engine there is no real way if there is no corresponding paperwork.

check with TVR the engine number to.

I have a 93 4l Chimera 250 which according to Steve's book indicates it is gas flowed. Would this look the same down the inlet manifold as an HC?

A small oblong block sticking out under No 3 plug (2nd one back on the near side). It should be stamped with the TVR engine No. which should correspond with the VIN plate and V5 .
It should also have a HC suffex for a HC, mine has, but if it doesn't don't panic as TVR weren't consistant with this I'm told, Tims way is probably a better indicator.
The block may need a wipe with a rag to see the No's, but being ally it cleans up a treat, you'll need a torch as well, and possibily a small mirror .

Yes if its a gas flowed version (which the 250 is) it should have this. I thought they only produced 250s on the early Griffs during 92'.

You can't tell by driving it. I've been in plain 4 litre cars that were quicker than HC ones. The VIN number is not reliable as the number ing was not consitent and it is easy to punck a couple of extra letters. And it has been done, especially when cars are not shifting.
If it has history then fine, if not be suspicious.

And it may not be there either... Also seen numbers stamped at the back of the engine and on the bell housing!
