A few days ago, I noticed the heater wasn't working.

I've searched through these forums quite thoroughly and have narrowed it down to perhaps two areas: the fuse or the "connector" which may have burnt out.

Now, I hadn't had the pleasure before of delving in to the spaghetti in the passenger's footwell; now I have. Quite how it will all go back in again I don't know!

According to the bible, manual and these forums, the heater is a 15A fuse. I've checked all of the 15A fuses in the fusebox- all are OK. The actual fuses don't bear much correlation to the bible (Mk 1) or the manual.

Here are some photos of the fuse box: [www.thefilehighclub.com/link/test/tvrfuses]
Here is a full-size photo of the fuses: [www.thefilehighclub.com/link/test/tvrfuses/L/769b8eab030c9d06a16983c9b297e7231fedde4d]

The 15A heater is supposes to be 8 in from the end. It's not.

Is there a chance someone has replaced the fuse with a non-15A previously?

Can anyone help me find the heater connector which may brown out? I have no idea what wire to look for. (it's referenced here: [www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=158446&f=8&h=0])

If your fuse is not blown you probably find the heater control unit has packed up. its a common fault,
Mine went 6 months ago, and as it's situated under the dash cowling and costs about £150 coupled with the fact that even with the heater off the car is as hot as a hot thing in August I hav'nt bothered to fix it.

Edtvr,
I presume the "heater control thing" is part of the dial and is tucked away behind the dashboard- I really don't want to take that apart!

I know the TVR heats up very well; I've been commuting every day this week with the roof down and it's been great.

However, this evening I left the roof on and it got very hot very fast. My Chimaera (normally!) has air-conditioning, so normally it wouldn't be a problem.

I need to fix this!

So now I have three sources of problems: the fuse, the "connector" and the "control thing". I'll try to find this connector in the morning.

Edit to say: I still haven't discounted a failed fuse, because I don't know for sure which the heater fuse is. I'm going to try tomorrow to run my volt-meter across all the fuses to see if any are blown.

The heater control or should I say blower conrol is situated under the dash cover,
If you follow the wires from the blower switch they lead to a black box its abour 3" X 4"
its held in place on a velcro strip, thats it.
The dash cover is held in palce by 3 screws, if you have a copy of the bible there is a section that refers to its removal, if not think I saw something on the chimaera pages about dash removal.

Ed,
I went through all of the fuses this morning- they are all fine. So it's going to be the connector or the control block.

Do I really have to take off the dash? or can I find it somewhere behind? I've read a lot of scare stories about cracking dashboards.

Hi Biggiles.

I went through the same the other month. www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=223412

and found after checking the fuses that it was the controller that had give up the ghost.

Unfortunatley the dash top will have to come off as there's not enough slack on the loom to worm the fan controller out through the sterio fascia.

Hopefully when you get the top off you'll find it's just the connector to the controller has burnt out due to a dry joint rather than the controller as they are abit pricey, or you never know.......it may just be the ribbon going to the fan switch that has come undone.

Remember, take your time and care when taking the dash apart, good luck.

As you can see from this picture mine was buried deep,
I don't know if in every car they are in the same position.
But if it is the same as on mine you only way is to remove the top of the dash.

Sorry

Finally after two months, I have solved this.

Err... it turns out the twiddly fan knob also clicks in and out!

So, luckily, I won't have to take the dash apart at all.

Ed, thanks for your help, and I hope this thread helps others in the future.
