My very low mileage (10K) 98 Chim has a worsening intermittent fault. On some drives the MIL light is on dimly the whole time and car hunts badly even at high speed and won't idle. The stepper motor is clean - so coking up doesn't seem to be the trouble. When in this mode the car can also take a long time to restart having stalled - engine turns over fine but won't start. Any ideas?

Have a look at this thread, as it sounds similar to a problem I had.

I eventually solved the problem by changing the ignition amp and coil

Thanks - that has given me a few more things to check out! All part of the Chim ownership experience...

Lend it to me and I'll rag it to the south of France and back! I guarantee it'll be fixed by the time I get back.

Seriously, IMO, if you're not using it freqently, you will get more and more of these issues. 10k miles on a 1998 car is barely run in.

It could well be a ground fault.

Couldn't agree more about lack of use - when I bought it a few weeks ago it had only done 9k miles! I'm driving it almost daily and its now that the faults are beginning to appear... My previous Chim had done 60k when I bought it and I had very few problems - but as I'm using this one a lot more was after lowest miles I could find.

Good news. I would check the battery connections and grounding points first. Lots of electrical anomolies can be put down to that.

Cheers,
