Buying my first Chim - Help and guidance please!!
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I'm looking to buy my first TVR
and from what I can gather the chim is a good one to start with even though I like the Cerb. I couldn't foil the upkeep on one of those and also the marital grief that went with it! When I think about how much I understand about cars, the phrase "back of a stamp" comes to mind!! That said, my cousin is a mechanic (non TVR) so if you experienced chaps (or ladies) out there could give us some ideas of the common things to look out for - that would be fantastic. Like everyone, I'm looking for a good car in nice condition at a fair price. I would be very grateful for any help and info. Cheers, Simon

Major Item is Chassis corrosion.
I just bought my first TVR, A Chimaera 4.0 2000 32K miles and took delivery last Saturday.
In oreder to do my research, apart from spending many hours reading the web, I invested 40 quid on Steve Heath's Bible on The Griffith/Chimaera and read it pretty much cover to cover. Also joined the club and attanded a couple of meeting to look at a few cars and get a feel for the club and the cars. I learned a lot about their foibles (The cars, not the people )
You can PM me if you have questions and think my recent experience might help.

Take a look at TVR Chimaera Pages for a basic buyer's guide.

On my second Chim. First one was bought with the heart and caused a great deal of grief although I think I got it finally sorted before I sold it. Used Rob Ingleby who advertises in the club magazine for the current one and he got me an absolute gem. These are great cars if you get the right one but will cost you a fortune if you dont get the research right.Ian

Would love to mate, i did actually consider the Cerb when the missus first fell pregnant. I just think i'm gonna be a little over protetive and buy a boring estate with some safety features for now. But never fear i will be a Tivver again!
