I recently bought a 500 chimaera, it was running fine but for some reason it won't start. The engine turns over but the fuel pump does'nt buzz when I turn the ignition on like it used to, and there's quite a loud buzzing coming from a relay by the battery in the passenger footwell. I think this relay is on the fuel line but I've tried changing it and it still makes the noise. Has anyone else had the same thing? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Try the connectors under the steering cowling, they play up on most tvr's, usually just a bad contact...If not check relay hasn't stuck.

The fuel pump relay is in the nearside footwell: it's one of two relays in an aluminium case. Check the connectors are clean. If they are, swap the two relays around. If the problem persists replace both relays with the same Bosch units.

The fact that one of the relays buzzes suggests there is not enough current to operate it (or it's faulty), which in turn means the supply to it is low (bad connection from the ignition switch) or its earth is bad. All of this assumes the battery is in good condition. The fact that the starter operates properly implies the battery is ok.

I had this problem when I forgot to connect up the ECU earthing wires (I think that's what they are).

I'd taken the fuel rail off for some reason and hadn't connected these wires back up. The wires (3 black wires) end in an eyelet that goes under a bolt that retains the fuel rail to the inlet manifold on the LH side of the engine.

Yes that's what they are, and a poor earth can cause exactly this sort of problem.

Thanks for your comments. I've already checked the fuel pump and it works fine with a seperate 12v supply. Unfortunately I cant get to the car for a day or so to try any of the other suggestions but I'll post the solution when I eventually find what is is. Many thanks.
