Like most people I love driving the chim with the roof off

However I can't make my mind up whether to have the back screen up or down

On balance I tend to keep the back screen up because

a) I don't like the fold in the back window

b) I can't seem to get the back low enough to use the rear view mirror

c) I quite like the look of the ally struts from the rear

My question is what do most people do - all off or half off

Is there any "speed limit" with the rear screen up

Also does anyone make a "cape" that you can put over the targa bit when leaving the car parked (in the works carpark) rather than having to keep draging the roof in/out of the boot

Appreciate views

Chris

Ive only once tried her with the back up - nasty experience lots of buffeting and noise yuk

My rear always folds down low enough to use the rear view mirror, you need to :

1. Break the alloy struts but dont lower the roof yet
2. Remove the roof panel
3. Release the velcro on both sides, inside and out
4. Now fold down the roof , laying your arm horizontally along the plastic so it folds nicely - if you are not a gorilla like me try a rolled up towel
5. Gentle pressure may be needed to get it right down low
6. Make sure the seat belts are not being hindered by the roof
7. Go for a blat

Yeah good question. I love driving with the roof off but feel guilty everytime I put it in the boot as I think it must damage the roof a bit. I try to keep it in the bag as much as possible.

You should always keep a cloth in the boot to wipe the dust off the rear screen. If it is dirty when folded the screen will get scratched as you drive due to vibration etc.

I tried putting the rear section right down for the first time last week and was very uncomfortable that I could not see anything in the rear view mirror, ended up stopping and putting the back section up again. I have found at speed the rear section billows out and becomes very taut but I've had no issue other than that, seems very good at speed.

I have done 1.4 with the rear section up without problems, but i get concerned at the strain being put on the stitching.

Kim, if the rear section can handle that speed without blowing the stictching I'm impressed.

I have noticed that the "inflation" factor depends on whether you have the windows up or down, I guess you were running with the windows up option.

Roof off and back down its the only way to travel.
I even take the roof off on the way home from work if its nice which is a 15 min trip.

...which is about how long it stays nice in this country in any one stretch...15 mins.

Seriously though - the car looks so much cooler with just the Targa top off and the rear section erect...ooh err missus.

Use lots of Renovo (or similar) to keep the rear screen soft.

Place a large rolled up towel in the screen area when you lower it, to stop the screen getting "pinched"

Roof off and rear screen down is the only way. Full effect of straight through exhaust mod can then be heard On a more practical note you seem to get a lot more noise and buffeting with the rear screen up. And does it really matter if the targa panel gets slightly damaged or the rear screen scratched ???? No it doesnt !!..... It should be off and folded down in all but the worst rainy day anyway !!! No one can see it then

I use the screen up, recently used mothers plastic polish which has made the screen softer and also the slightly warmer temp has helped , but still don't like the way it folds.

Interesting. I dont like the way it folds either and have tried the towel method ( well some rolled curtain material anyway ). Even with towel and carefull stowing there is always a nasty fold at the each edge of the screen. Was gonna try and find a long draught excluder as the curtain material is cramping my style ...

Mind you, left the rear up at work the other day and someone reckoned it looked better than down !

The rear screen on mine was replaced before I bought it with very thick plastic,(it needs replacing with thin plastic) not concerned about screen scratching or cracking or seeing through the rear view mirror, roof down all the time, cars behind soon disapear unless you have got very good eyesight.

Prefer to drive mine with the targa off and the rear section up for all the reasons previously mentioned.
Does anyone know if anyone has ever had glass put in the rear window? Wouldn't matter if you never wanted to fold the rear down.

Surely this wouldn't work due to having to 'crack' the struts to get the targa bit off. Just get it down and stop worrying

There is a company somewhere that used to replace the plastic screens on MGTFs with smaller glass panels. The glass panel was just the right size for fitting into one of the folds when the roof was down.
