Went out in the chimp for a spin last night and the clutch suddenly started slipping. I'm sure this has happened to many of you but what i was wondering was-

Hw much is a new clutch (fitted), and can anyone recommend a good place to have it done in Berkshire and surrounding areas, that won't break the bank....

Thanks

James

Why are you so sure that the clutch itself needs replacing and that it isn't just a hydraulic failure ?

A clutch will not slip if it suffers a hydraulic failure, it will not disengage.

To be honest chaps i only think it's the clutch. What are the signs of a knackered gearbox?

Grunches, failure to get gears and other really interesting noises. Worth looking underneath to see if there is any oil leaks around the gtearbox and clutch area. THis can spray oil onto the clutch plates and cause slip.

If it isn't simply worn out the only other thing that could cause it to slip is oil contamination. A gearbox in itself cannot make a clutch slip.
